iKhaya le themba – a really worthy NPO

I met a girl named Sytske yesterday while I was working from the Woolies coffee shop, and we started talking. She volunteers at iKhaya le themba. It always amazes me how many incredibly caring people there are out there that can separate from their own circumstances and conundrums and give unconditionally – whether it is financial or an offering of skills, love or labour.  I whole heartedly respect people like Sytske (who is from Holland by the way), and will absolutely make it a part of my day going forward, to give something back…

iKhaya le themba is an NPO in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, Cape Town. They support around 90 children and their families made vulnerable through HIV/AIDS and poverty.. iKhaya le themba, meaning home of hope, offers after school care with structured programs in a safe and stimulating environment. The programs include educational support, life skills, therapeutic groups as well as opportunities for fun and play and a good meal. Parents and carers are supported by our community worker through home visits, referral and advocacy. Parenting groups are run offering parent education, emotional support and life skills such as budgeting. Please consider supporting this worthy cause – donation or volunteering.
